Flat fee mls listings may be new to you, however, they have been around since the early 2000’s. At least, that is when I first saw them on the Long Island MLS. Early in my real estate career, I thought to myself, “oh wow, this will change real estate.” From doing many searches on the internet, I found on the Department of Justice’s website, that the USDOJ fought (and won!) many MLS boards across the US to allow flat fee mls only service providers access to the MLS. Of course, at first, many Realtors and MLS boards didn’t want the competition. But, this is America, isn’t it? Many consumers wanted freedom of choice when it came to selling their own homes and using a flat fee mls provider. This levels the playing field across the board.
